Dubai Souks

'Souk' or 'Souq' is the Arabic word, which means 'the market place' where goods are brought and exchanged. Souks in Dubai, UAE are traditional style Arabian markets selling a variety of goods ranging from gold and diamond jewelry to spices, textiles, perfumes, and even fish, fruits and vegetables. These souks are frequented by thousands of tourists and locals whom you can see negotiating prices with shopkeepers. In fact, bargaining is a must in Dubai souks to get the best deal even on gold and diamond jewellery items, as shopkeepers generally quote higher prices.

Souks in Dubai are located on both sides of the Dubai Creek in Deira and Bur Dubai. While the famous Gold Souk, Spice Souk (Old Souk), Fish Souk and Perfume Souk are located in Deira, the Textile Souk is located on Bur Dubai side. Souks in Dubai are open all 7 days a week. The opening times for most of the souks are from 9:00-13:00 and 16:00-22:00(on Firday 16:00-22:00), the Food and Fish Souks open early from 06:00-13:00 and 16:00-22:00.

Dubai Gold Souk

Visit the Gold Souk to see the large variety of gold sold at really reasonable prices.
Prices are generally determined by weight rather than design and craftsmanship. Watch out for different designs in earrings, rings, necklaces, chains, bracelets, bangles and pendants. Designs can be traditional or modern, bold or conservative, loud or sober, sturdy or delicate. Along with designs, you will find many different shades of gold like pink, white, yellow or green hues in one piece. Dubai Gold Souk is worth a visit even if you have no intention of buying. It would be hard to resist the temptation to buy them.

Dubai Spice Souk

Dubai Spice Souk is the market for fresh Arabic spices. Once here, fragrances and aroma of spices and seasonings will surround you. On sale are the cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, incense, dried fruit and nuts imported from all over the Middle East. The spices are sold straight out of large open sacks. Taking some of the spices back home is not a bad deal at all.

Dubai Perfume Souk

At Dubai Perfume Souk, thousands of different sweet aromas and fragrance looks inviting. There are thousands of aromas to select the one you like. Even if you were not able to find the one that you want, the smart shopkeepers would come up with a unique concoction that suits you perfectly. From traditional Arabic ittars to latest designer perfumes, you can find all under one roof. Arabic perfumes are very strong and spicy unlike light floral western perfumes. You can find perfume in shopping malls as well but the best place to buy perfumes is the Dubai Perfume Souk. Dubai Fish Souk

Dubai Fish Souk at Deira is an attraction early in the morning and late at nights. The local fishermen bring loads of fresh fish, which is then sold, in an immediate bargain bazaar. You will find the King Fish, Red Snapper, Rock Cod, Barracuda, Tuna, Lobster, Crab, King Prawn, Sea Bream, Squid, Pomfret, Shark, Mackerel, Sardine and other species in abundance for most part of the year.
